Lawyer, MLA, social activist and educationist Bader Sayeed was in the news for filing a PIL in the Madras High Court to stop the practice of kazis issuing divorce or talaq certificates.
As I gear up to meet Bader Sayeed in her office, I look around at the awards displayed that acknowledge her work in various sectors, and at the formidable law books that line her bookshelves. The solemn ambience is a sight at odds with Bader’s friendly and down-to-earth nature. The woman who’s slipped into several roles effortlessly over the years—lawyer, legislator and activist—is currently fighting for fairer divorce proceedings for Muslim women.
Noted lawyer and former AIADMK legislator Bader Sayeed joined the Congress party at the Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Chennai on Saturday,in the presence of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President Su. Thirunavukkarasar.
Ms. Sayeed, a schoolmate of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, was brought into politics by her.
